ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - Ethiopian, American and European researchers have observed a fissure in a desert in the remote northeast that could be the "birth of a new ocean basin".

This cuts down on the amount of fuel needed, meaning hybrid vehicles produce fewer emissions. and spend less on petrol. Most hybrids also use regenerative braking, which means that energy is put back into the battery when braking - this improves energy efficiency and reduces brake wear.
